Sometimes merchants process transactions and payments offline. Opposite to online transactions, which are executed in real time, offline transactions are processed later than they are initiated. This means that when you make a card payment, your available balance is not deducted straight away. In these cases, merchants will usually deduct the funds 1-3 business days later.
